7 tips for the design of your exhibition wall or presentation wall

A stock exchange wall is quickly bought.
But what matters is what you do with it and how you communicate with it. The purpose of such a wall is usually to stand out and draw attention to you. From hopefully potential customers.
You could therefore see a trade fair wall as a contact instrument. A means to get in touch and have conversations. But how are you going to take care of that? What do you put on an exhibition wall, what do you show and what better not?

The DO's and DON'Ts when it comes to designing and communicating your exhibition wall.

1. Work big
An exhibition wall has a limited size. And yet you want it to be seen from a distance and - if there is text on it - readable. Therefore, use the space on your wall and remember that people should also know that you are there when they pass by, with only half a look.

2. Who are you and what do you do
In my book"Scoring with your exhibition participation" I will discuss in detail what I call the Key Exhibition Message of your exhibition stand. The most important message that makes it clear to visitors who you are, what you do, and why you are interesting to potential customers. Such a Key Exhibition Message is not only important on exhibition stands and trade fairs, but also on an exhibition wall or display for conferences, promotions or smaller ones exhibition stands. Just a logo and the name of your company on your exhibition wall is usually not enough. Or you should focus exclusively on (existing) customers who already know you. If that is not the case, think about a short catchy text, slogan or pay-off that immediately makes it clear to your target group what you stand for.

3. Large format visuals

On most exhibition walls, photos and graphics are part of the design. That's fine, because the right photos provide attention value and support your Key Exhibition Message. This also applies; they must be big. It is better to have one very large photo than several small photos.

4. Less is more

Less is more applies not only to the number of photos, but also to the text. We have produced many hundreds of exhibition walls with a lot of text. The sales department, marketing department or management wanted to tell the whole story on the exhibition wall. Sometimes including mission and vision.

I can hear it, but no one is reading all that text. Therefore I advise you not to do this. Less=more.

5. Removable panels?

Some of our exhibition walls consist of one very large print on canvas. But we also have exhibition walls where the image is made up of a number of strips or panels.
This offers you the possibility to design one or more lanes as "switch". For example, to show a different product or to address a different target group.

In that case, keep in mind that you do not let the background of these "swap panels" continue over the other panels. Because that hinders you in reordering exchangeable panels later because you always get a color difference and/or fit difference. So choose a different background for your exchange panels, then you won't have that problem.

6. Something about the (technical) quality of photos for exhibition walls

Because photos on a trade fair wall are displayed so large, the quality must be good. A photo that you have cut from a website is far too small to properly enlarge. If we do that anyway, it will become blurry and you can count the pixels. So use the original, uncompressed image as much as possible. If you enlarge a small part of the photo on your screen to the size at which it will be printed, and you then move about two/three meters away from your screen, you already have a very nice indication of what to expect. 7. Shutterstock and other image databases

If you do not have good visual material, in terms of subject or technical quality, you can of course see if the photo of your choice can be found on Shutterstock, for example. Be a little careful with it, especially when it comes to images of people. The typical "stock photo" people and compositions often look "fake", which detracts from your image.
